Westbahnlauf Ratingen
11 October, 11 am
A 10 km road race along the disused Westbahn railway line through Ratingen-West, Tiefenbroich and Lintorf. Approx. 1.5 km — the route runs practically past your front door.
One train ride further: the New Balance KÖ MEILE on 6 September, when Düsseldorf’s Königsallee becomes a running track. Approx. 14 km — far more relaxed by S-Bahn from Ratingen-Ost than by car.

More happens outside the tents than in them: the grand entry of the Oktoberfest landlords on 19 September, the costume and riflemen’s parade on 20 September, and the open-air concert of the Wiesn bands at the end of the month. Approx. 24 km by car — but honestly, take the S6 from Vaterstetten, around 50 to 65 minutes to the Theresienwiese. Then sleep somewhere quiet.

Upper Bavaria’s third-largest folk festival, with horse racing on 5 September and closing fireworks. Approx. 23 km, 25–30 minutes — or take the S2 from Markt Schwaben straight to Erding.
Corso Leopold
12–13 September
Leopoldstraße goes car-free: ten stages, around 200 artists, 90 exhibitors and street food. Admission free. Around 50 minutes by public transport.
Fantasy and Medieval Market, Vaterstetten
25–27 September
Jugglers, fire shows, craft stalls and medieval food under an open sky. Pay once, come back every day. Approx. 7 km, 10 minutes — the closest event on the entire list.
Wool and Pottery Market at Reitsberger Hof
10–11 October
Over 100 potters with wheel-throwing demonstrations, alongside Germany’s largest wool market with 120 exhibitors, sheep shearing and pony rides. Approx. 7 km, 10 minutes.
